ORE RESERVES
|
The
Marcona district covers an area of aproximately 150 Kms. The basic
rock is the Lomas Complex, on this lies the Marcona Formation, which
contains most of the important ore bodies.
There are 117 ore bodies comprising spots, Mines and Anomalies scattered
over an area of 10 Kms X 15 Kms with variable lengths and strickes.

MINING OPERATIONS
|
|
Mining extraction is done by open pit mining operations.
There are several mines openned among them, Mine 2-3-4 and Mine
5 are in actual operation. Mining operations comprise the following
stages:
* Drilling -Blasting
-Loading
* Crushing (Primary and Secondary
* Conveying.

BENEFICIATION OPERATIONS
|
Different
mineral processing circuits have been stablished for the beneficiation
of the Marcona ore according with the type of ore and market requirements.
The basic processes are:
Terciary Crushing
The ore size is reduced to 80% passing 3/4".
Sinter Feed Production
Circuit
This circuit is known as coarse grind circuit which comprises four
grinding lines and the basic operations are as follows:
*Primary grinding by rod mills
*Size classification
*Magnetic separation
*Coarse grind sulphur flotation
*Dewatering and classification.
Pellet Feed Production Circuit
Known as fine grind circuit, which comprise four grinding lines with
the following basic operations:
*Primary grinding by rod mills
*Cobber magnetic separation
*Secondary grinding by ball mills
*Finishing magnetic separation
*Fine grind sulphur flotation
*Classification
*Regrinding by ball mills.
Dewatering and Filtering
Water from the concentrate is separated by thickening and filtering
bringing down the water content to 8.5% by weight, there are three
filtering lines with a total capacity of 650 DLT/H.
Balling
and Induration
Balling operation is performed by using 6 m diameter discs inclined
45° with variable speed, with a capacity of 60 DLT/H each one.
The green balls are screened before they are feed to the induration
machine by means of double deck roller screens installed within
the roller feeder system.
Green balls are indurated in straight grate furnaces firing at 1330°C
temperature. Residual oil is used for the burning operation.
There are 2 Pelletizing Plants totalling a capacity of 3.2 MLT of
burned pellets per year.
